preventative dentistry

  • Aids in the prevention of gum disease and cavities through the removal of plaque and calculus by scaling and polishing your teeth. Recommended every 6 months, unless otherwise directed by your hygienists or dentist.

  • Applied after dental cleaning to strengthen teeth, decrease sensitivity, and prevent cavities. Fluoride is recommended for all patients, especially children and adults with a high rate of cavities. No hot beverages, chewing gum, or brushing teeth for two hours after application.

  • Night guards or mouth guards that aid in protecting your teeth from clenching and grinding while you sleep, help relax the jaw and reduce snoring, and protect the lip, teeth and gums in contact sports such as football, boxing and wrestling.

  • Performed at each preventative visit to ensure there are no mucosal abnormalities. In conjunction with intra-oral and head & neck exams, we use a handheld device called VELscope to screen for pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions.

  • In conjunction with digital x-rays, we use a device called DIAGNOdent to aid in detection of hidden cavities by measuring the laser fluorescence within the structure of a tooth. With this device, there is no additional x-ray exposure and results are accurate, reliable and precise.

  • A thin, protective coating placed on permanent molars to aid in prevention of cavities. Recommended for all children & adolescents.
